Overview
Inspired by Australian tidal pools, Jen Lewin developed custom technology and code for The Pool, an interactive landscape of concentric, illuminated platforms that respond to touch. Visitors move across the work to create shifting patterns of color, turning participation into an ever-changing composition. Since its debut in 2008, The Pool has traveled to more than sixty venues in over twenty countries.
Jamie’s Role
From 2014 to 2016, Jamie worked with The Pool to redesign mold tooling and source new vendors, supported by plastics research, improved fabrication, redesigned electronics housings, and stronger weatherproofing. He traveled with the installation to more than ten destinations, managing teams responsible for shipping, installing, and maintaining a living artwork comprising more than 200 individual units, each housing custom-built lighting, sensors, and microcontrollers. His operational responsibilities also included managing project budgets and inventory and coordinating with consultants and subconsultants.
