Charlestown Marketplace
Public Realm
A concept for a public marketplace beneath the Charlestown Bridge Viaduct in Boston.
A public marketplace beneath the Charlestown Bridge.
(Site)
Site and experience mapping identified opportunities to connect the viaduct with Paul Revere Park, nearby streets, transit, and the waterfront. The concepts consider pedestrian routes, visible entrances, service access, and daylight beneath the bridge.
(Market)
Concept options explore a pedestrian paseo with retail, food and drink, flexible seating, and places to gather. The renderings show possible indoor market commons, bar and dining areas, and an outdoor market edge.
Scope
The project scope includes site and market analysis, visioning, and conceptual design for the Charlestown Bridge Viaduct in Boston. Jamie led the visioning and conceptual design effort for the experience beneath the bridge. Working with the City of Boston, market analysts, and the architecture and landscape architecture teams, the concept explored a tiered approach to activating the site that would minimize the City’s upfront investment while attracting local attention to the area. The plan includes a full market hall buildout with retail, food and beverage, and event space, along with new outdoor amenity space on both sides of the bridge.
